On February 25, 2025, the kick-off meeting for the formulation of the national standard 'Thermal Insulation Materials—Aerogel Blankets for Buildings—Specification'was held in Shaoxing. The event was organized by the National Technical Committee on Thermal Insulation Materials and hosted by our company--Nano Tech Co., Ltd..
At the meeting, Yao Xiandong, Deputy General Manager of Nano Tech Co., Ltd. delivered a speech on behalf of the organization: "Looking back to 2015, the first national standard for the aerogel industry, GB/T 34336-2017 'Nanoporous Silica Aerogel Composite Thermal Insulation Products,' was initiated in Shaoxing. A decade later, Shaoxing once again becomes a key location for the launch of a new national standard in the aerogel sector, and Nano Tech once again serves as a deputy editor of the standard. We extend our gratitude to industry experts and peers for their trust and support."
With the rapid development of the aerogel industry, its application in building insulation is gaining momentum. Establishing and refining relevant national standards is crucial—it will regulate industry technology, promote high-quality development in construction, accelerate the achievement of China's "3060" dual-carbon goals, and lay a solid foundation for the healthy and orderly growth of the aerogel industry.
Cui Jun, the project leader for the national standard, provided a detailed explanation of the standard's background, drafting principles, and related aspects, while outlining the next steps in the formulation process. Experts and industry representatives engaged in in-depth discussions on the requirements, key technical content, and performance indicators for aerogel blankets in construction, proposing several constructive suggestions.
The 'Thermal Insulation Materials—Aerogel Blankets for Buildings—Specification'national standard draws on the international standard ISO 22482:2021 while incorporating China's practical applications and product characteristics. This approach facilitates alignment between national and international standards, promoting openness and high-level development in the aerogel industry. The standard is expected to be completed within a 16-month timeframe, with finalization anticipated in 2025.
Significance of the Standard
The launch of this national standard will significantly advance the adoption of aerogel blankets in construction while ensuring more standardized and regulated domestic applications. As the second national standard for aerogel products following GB/T 34336-2017, it fills a critical gap in the standardization of aerogel materials for buildings. By providing technical support for the industry, it will contribute to China's goals of building energy efficiency and green construction.
With its expected completion in 2025, this standard is poised to unlock new opportunities in sustainable construction, driving the next phase of growth for China's aerogel industry.
